Why is this important?
The Higher Learning Commission expects "that MNU will have prepared the total organizational community for the visit." - Handbook of Accreditation
The Commission will also expect "that constituencies are informed and involved; they provide frequent input and feedback. When the evaluation team reaches the campus and holds informal interviews in faculty and administrative offices, discusses the organization with staff, and chats with students in dining areas or classroom hallways, it discovers that all of them know about the process and its results." - Handbook of Accreditation
Within your offices, you have been involved in providing narrative and examples of evidence for this report. The criterion committees have used much of the information that you have provided.
Now, it is time for you to become involved in reading the report, understanding the report's findings and providing feedback to HLC Steering committee and the HLC Co-chairs.
Instructions:
Using the search function within Adobe acrobat find those sections of the report that pertain to your work. For example, Dennis Troyer could search for and read everything that pertains to "retention" and "enrollment development." As another example, the Division of Religion might search for and read everything that pertains to "Religion", "Master of Pastoral Leadership", "Ministry", etc.
Write feedback comments for the Steering Committee and Co-chairs to consider. (e.g. Is there anything missing? Do any items need to be updated? Is there anything which is incorrect? Are there strengths or weaknesses that have been overlooked?)

Comments from Criterion 2A:
the three strategic areas of emphasis (that came from the President's speech) and HOW they connect with the conceptual framework is unclear. There is no clear tie between these three areas to the 4 directions of the compass to the 5 signature committments.
(Also on p. 55 instead of signature committments it reads signature "commentments)
p. 56 (bottom) - Inconsistency in how Team MidAmerica is capitalized (one place team is all caps, the others it is not).
p. 58 Planning documents -- Is the University Advancement plan also available in the resource room -- if so, it should be added to the list in the side notation.
p. 59 top - "The team report of a 2008 requested Focus visit for change...." -- this sentence does not make sense to me. Unclear what visit is being referred to.
p. 59 - 5 year plan for technology -- is it done? When is the anticipated time of completion? These details might be added here.
p. 60 -- BSN Completion coordinator -- Isn't Allison Young now full time (report says part time).
p. 62 -- Doesn't Tony Moore now have a new title? The former title is listed here.
p. 62 Appendices at bottom (footnote) -- first one has Documents mispelled.
p. 64 -- Update "Statement of Belief and Lifestyle" to the new "Statement of Community Covenant"?
p. 64 -- Update chapel section to reflect the new menu of chapel options to show we are being responsive to student need.

under the Library faculty/library staff, the numbers for MidAmerica should be 3/2.33
Does it count for anything that for the past 3 weeks I've been reading the "Self Study Report" that is on the Intranet site?...I'm such an idiot, I've been wondering why all the stuff was so OLD...
***page 18; table 1-5 Library Budgets and Staff - under the Library faculty/library staff, the numbers for MidAmerica should be 3/2.33. THIS CHANGE HAS BEEN MADE. THANK YOU.***
page 22 #4 needs to be reworded:
The faculty is encouraged to submit requests to the library for items to be purchased for the library's collection. Each division is allocated a certain amount of money from the library's materials budget. These funds are used to order materials that will support the curriculum in the division, as well as more general research needs. Faculty also provide input on the addition of research databases and journal subscriptions.
page 72 (paragraph 1 under Library Resources) needs to be reworded:
...These databases include approximately 62,000 periodicals of which approximately 20,000 provide access to full-text articles. The library continues to trial additional research databases that support the curriculum of the University.
page 72 (paragraph 1 under Library Resources) needs to be reworded (part 2): The rest of the paragraph may remain as worded.
page 72 (2nd paragraph under Library Resources):
The library utilizes the services of two book jobbers in the ordering of most materials: Emery-Pratt and Midwest Library Services. Emery-Pratt is used to order non-university press titles; Midwest Library Services to order university press titles. The library also utilizes online vendors such as Amazon.com, Christianbook.com, Alibris.com, and AbeBooks.com in order to find the best price or to replace lost items. Specialty items are often ordered directly from the publisher or distributor....The library subscribes to 225 print periodicals. (Where is Appendix 2B: Print periodicals?). The current issues are organized alphabetical by title within their specific disciplines. Titles crossing disciplines are filed in a section titled "Interdisciplinary". This has improved access to the print journals and magazines by students and faculty. The library has adopted a five-year weeding plan to assist in the maintenance and development of the the collections. Lost and missing items are replaced as determined by the Reference Librarian. The library has continued to develop its collection of music and non-music CDs, including audiobooks on CD, and DVDs...

page 72 (paragraph 3 under Library Resources):
The Teacher Education Resource Center (TERC) is housed on the second floor of Mabee Library. This collection consists of materials for PreK-12 programs, including subject-specific curriculum kits, videorecordings, sound recordings, big books, text books, teaching guides, planning guides, and additional resources used in the classroom. This room also has a television with a VCR for viewing videotapes (a television with DVD player is available in the Media Room on the first floor), and two computer workstations with a printer that are available for research.

The University seeks to abide by all federal copyright laws, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 and the Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act of 2002 at every level of the University's operation. The interim library director of Mabee Library serves as the University's copyright agent. This person attends conferences and receives regular updates and disseminates the information to faculty, staff, and students. The copyright agent provides faculty with a "best practices" guide for complying with copyright. Faculty are updated on a regular basis in Faculty Assembly on the matter of copyright....
page 172 - Responsiveness through Mabee Library
"Mabee Library and Learning Resources Center not only serves the academic needs of faculty and students, but also the research needs of the greater metropolitan community. The library provides access to both print and non-print media. Electronic resources, such as research databases, are accessible to faculty and currently enrolled students 24-hours per day, seven days per week from any location with access to the Internet. New databases are evaluated for content and overall curriculum support on a trial basis and are added if appropriate and as the budget allows. As new programs are added, the library seeks to add research databases and other resources to support the curriculum, if the budget allows.

"Mabee Library is a member of the Private Academic Libraries of Kansas consortium and Christian Libraries consortium. The Christian Libraries consortium has also partnered with the Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization. Last sentence:
"In addition, access is provided to approximately 50 electronic journals."

"Reference librarians interact with students and faculty via e-mail, instant message, telephone, and face-to-face."

Does this paragraph need to be included since most of the information is included in the second paragraph? Some of the information could be put in the second paragraph to cut down on the redundancy, specifically the first sentence could be added to the appropriate section in the second paragraph on this page.
The Nazarene pastors on the educational region of MidAmerica Nazarene University have full access to the library's print and electronic resources. Members of the community-at-large have access to the library's audiovisual, non-subscription databases, and print resources by registering for a patron card.
